Medical expertise. Support. Trust. Understanding. These are essential components in managing or recovering from any illness or injury. You also need to know that the medical assessment team is impartial and independent, respects your needs and understands your rights.

What to expect

  • You will be asked to complete a questionnaire before you attend your assessment.
  • We will start your assessment by taking a thorough medical history.
  • Your medical assessor will inform you of what tests are needed and answer any questions you have.
  • The assessor will conduct a thorough, impartial, unbiased examination.
  • The assessor will focus on the specific illness or injury related to your file.
  • Breaks may be offered during the assessment.

How to prepare

  • Unless medically necessary, we recommend that you eat and drink before your examination. You may also want to bring a snack.
  • Wear comfortable clothes.
  • Please make child care arrangements, as our staff and facilities cannot provide child supervision.
  • Double check the date, time and duration of your assessment beforehand.
  • Cira can arrange transportation and accommodation, chaperones, and interpreters. Please let us know if you have any needs as soon as possible.
